Dear Readers,


We are delighted to share with you that June 22, 2023, will be remembered as a momentous day for Indians here in the USA. 


The Indian Prime Minister, His Excellency Narendra Modi, was honored with an official state visit by the President of the United States, Joe Biden. 


This historic event was witnessed by many, including members of our own organization, the ICAI DC team.


It was an honor for us to have received an invitation from the Embassy of India, Washington DC , due to the incredible support provided by Ravi Kota to witness this significant event. 


We are proud to have been present and to have represented our organization on such an important day. This experience has further strengthened our commitment to promoting and fostering closer ties between India and the United States.

Dear Readers,


On June 22nd, a groundbreaking event took place for the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) community in the USA, which was also a historic moment for India. The Washington DC Chapter of ICAI hosted a gathering of Chartered Accountants from different states across the USA. This was the first time such an event had been held, and it was a great success thanks to the support of sponsors such as ICICI Bank's Akshay Chaturvedi, CPA Sanjiv Gupta, Eisnerampar's Hiren Modi, C.A. Pankaj Mundra of 360tf, and Team ICAI Arizona.


We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to all of our sponsors for their generosity and instrumental role in making this event possible. We would also like to express our appreciation to all the ICAI chapters across the USA who participated in the event and contributed to its success.


Team ICAI DC played a significant role in organizing this event, and we are proud to share that we look forward to hosting more such events and connecting with all of you. The energy in the room was truly unmatched, and it was heartening to see so many of you come together to celebrate this historic moment for India. Greetings from FICCI and the Washington DC Chapter of ICAI!


February 1 marks the announcement of India's Union Budget for FY 2023-24. The global outlook for investment in India remains strong; therefore, the budget provides an excellent opportunity to convert global sentiment into action. As the United States is one of India's top investors, American investors will watch the budget announcements keenly.


In this backdrop, FICCI, along with the Embassy of India, Washington, DC, and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), Washington DC Chapter, scheduled a virtual session on "Insights on Union Budget 2023" on February 10, 2023.


Ambassador Sripriya Ranganathan, Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy of India, Washington, DC, USA, and Mr. Pranav Sayta, Chairman FICCI Taxation Committee and Partner & National Leader from E&Y India, an expert on International Tax and Transaction Services matters, enriched us with their knowledge during the session. 


The session detailed a closer look at the different components of the Union Budget to help understand businesses specific to India-US with a focus on the economic outlook.

Decoding: India's Budget 2022  

A Joint Webinar by the Washington DC and New York Chapters of ICAI

The Washington DC and New York Chapters of ICAI jointly hosted a webinar session on Decoding India's 2022 Budget.  His Excellency, Ambassador Randhir Jaiswal, Consul General of India in New York, and Dr. Ravi Kota, Minister (Economic), Embassy of India, Washington DC graced the occasion as the Guests of Honor. The session topics included the role of indirect tax in Indian economy, India @ 75 to India @ 100 - Vision of Indian Government, India-U.S. Relations and the Road Ahead and Investment Opportunities for Indo-American businesses and NRIs in India - Tax and Regulatory Aspects (With implications of Union Budget 2022-23). Eminent speakers who addressed the session included CA Vishal Garg, Ex-Chairman NIRC of ICAI, CA Abhishek Rastogi, Partner, Khaitan and Co, Atman Trivedi, Senior Vice President at Albright Stonebridge Group, Dr Rakesh Gupta, Ex-Member, Income Tax Appellate Tribunal, CA Uday Ved, Lead Partner in Global Tax Practice Group at KNAV and Abha Kumar, Board Member Vahanna Tech Acquisition (Nasdaq: VHNAU), and former CIO Vanguard 

Meeting with CA Mahaveer Singhvi, IFS, Ministry of Foreign Affairs

October 27, 2021 

ICAI Washington DC Chapter hosted CA Mahaveer Singhvi, Joint Secretary, Ministry of External Affairs, GOI, who was on his official trip to the US. Mr. Singhvi spoke about about various initiatives from ICAI International Affairs, as well as possible activities from chapters for increased collaboration between chapters, embassy and GOI.  The meeting was also attended virtually by Mr. Sudhakar Dalela, Deputy Chief of Missions (DCM), Indian Embassy, Washington DC.

First in-Person Gathering of ICAI DC Chapter

September 11, 2021 

The ICAI DC Chapter held its first meeting on September 11, 2021 as the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions were relaxed. Several members of the branch attended the gathering. During this session, senior members shared their CA journey and career path in the US, followed by a Q&A session and other networking and team-building activities.

Automation and Use of AI/ML in Audits 

July 10, 2021 


The ICAI Washington DC chapter organized a webinar on July 10, 2021 on the topic "Automation and Use of AI/ML in Audits", where CA Parikshith Acharya, Mr.  Tomasz Pycia, CA Palak Vasa, CA Mansi Jain and Ms. Smit Parsania jointly presented on the latest trends in Auditing, and automation of auditing processes, areas of audits where automation is possible, and the role of Auditors and manual interventions in the future. The webinar was moderated by CA Miloni Dhruv.

How Technology is Shaping the Future of Trade Finance 

June 19, 2021 


The ICAI Washington DC chapter organized a webinar on June 19, 2021 on the topic "How Technology is Shaping the Future of Trade Finance", where CA Pankaj Mundra and Mr.  Vikram Lodha, CEO 360tf presented valuable insights on how technology is disrupting the world of conventional trade finance ,and challenges and opportunities for Chartered Accountants and other professionals in the business world. Mr. Yaduvendra Mathur, Vice Chairman, Consulting Engineers Group and Ex-CMD, Exim Bank graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. 

Exploring Cybersecurity 

March 21, 2021 


The ICAI Washington DC chapter organized a seminar on March 21, 2021 on the topic "Exploring Cybersecurity", where CA Krishnamurthy presented latest developments in cybersecurity impacting businesses in general and the CA profession in particular. The seminar was moderated by CA Miloni Dhruv, and focused on how Auditors, Finance, Legal, IT & Compliance professionals could gain a better understanding of underlying Cybersecurity Risks. 

Washington DC Chapter Inauguration

February 6, 2021 


The Washington DC Chapter of the ICAI was formally inaugurated on February 6, 2021 by the Hon'ble Ambassador of India to the USA, H.E. Taranjit Singh Sandhu. Maryland State Senator, Mr. James C. Rosapepe, ICAI President CA Atul Kumar Gupta and ICAI Vice-President CA Nihar N. Jambusaria graced the occasion. 

Washington DC RO Inauguration

July 4, 2020 


The Washington DC Representative Office of the ICAI was inaugurated on July 4, 2020 by the Hon'ble Minister of Railways and Commerce & Industry, Government of India, along with representative offices based in Chicago, Dallas, Houston and New England.

The occasion was also graced by the Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy of India, Washington DC, Ambassador Sudhakar Dalela, President of ICAI, CA Atul Kumar Gupta, and Vice-President of ICAI, CA Nihar Niranjan Jambusaria.
